Before the first lesson, a map: what the child already knows and where they need support.
Mapping the right level
Starting from the right place
The projectmath culture invites children to record their mathematical experience so far on a Knowledge Mapping Sheet, so that their learning needs become clear.
This assessment reveals every area of skill that needs to be addressed, so children do not waste their valuable time on concepts they have already mastered.
The honeycomb map
Each student's starting point is then located on the projectmath honeycomb map — a point at which the student feels independent and able to cope.
The map is not linear. The way it is structured leaves room for the system to decide both the next structure the student will work on and the level of difficulty.
Why mapping is not an exam
It is a tool, not a grade. No child passes or fails.
It does not pressure
The starting point is chosen so that the student feels strong and independent in the tasks that follow.
It does not waste time
Whatever has already been mastered is skipped. The effort goes where it is genuinely needed.
Mathematics is a "chain subject". If the starting point turns out to be below the school year, it simply means we have found links that need joining before we move on.
